Ceramic & Porcelain Tile Installation
Floors, walls, patios, and pool surrounds. We handle the layout, the substrate prep, and the finish work.
What This Service Covers
Ceramic and porcelain tile are the workhorses of residential and commercial flooring. You will find them in bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, laundry rooms, covered patios, and commercial lobbies. The range of available sizes has expanded considerably in recent years, from classic 4x4 wall tiles to large-format 24x48 and even 36x36 porcelain slabs that read almost like continuous stone.
We install both. The prep work changes significantly depending on the tile size. Large-format tiles require a flatter substrate, a larger-notch trowel to achieve full mortar coverage, and more careful layout planning so that cuts at walls are symmetrical and visually intentional rather than random.
How We Approach Every Install
Substrate Assessment
We check for flatness using a 10-foot straightedge. Any variation beyond 3/16 inch gets addressed with floor leveler before tile goes down. On wood subfloors, we install cement board or an uncoupling membrane depending on the floor system and tile size.
Layout Planning
We find the visual center of the room, snap chalk lines, and dry-lay a section of tile before mixing any mortar. This step reveals how cuts will land at every wall and lets us adjust the starting point to avoid thin slivers at doorways or focal walls.
Setting and Grouting
We use the right thinset for the tile type. Porcelain requires a polymer-modified mortar, and large-format tiles get back-buttered as well as troweled to ensure full coverage. After the mortar cures, we grout with the joint width and color you selected and finish with a grout sealer on porous grout types.
Transitions and Trim
Where tile meets another flooring material, we install appropriate metal or tile transition strips. Caulk goes in corners and at the tub or cabinet base instead of grout, which allows for the slight movement that occurs in every building.
