Dark Green Shower Enclosure in Kyle
About This Project
This shower enclosure in a Kyle home in the Plum Creek area is one of the more distinctive builds we have done in the area. The homeowners chose a dark forest green 3x6 subway tile set vertically, which creates a taller, more dramatic look than the standard horizontal orientation. A gold metal trim strip runs along the perimeter of the enclosure opening, framing the entry and providing a clean edge where the tile meets the surrounding drywall.
The bench seat at the base is tiled in a speckled granite-look porcelain mosaic that provides visual contrast and texture underfoot. The bench was framed in cement board on a pressure-treated lumber base and waterproofed before any tile was applied. Because the tile color is dark, we used a dark-tinted unsanded grout that minimizes the visible joint lines and maintains the moody, saturated look the homeowner was after. The gold trim detail required careful mitering at the corners so the metal profile wraps cleanly without visible gaps.
What We Did
Built and waterproofed cement board bench structure before any tile work
Set dark green 3x6 subway tile in vertical stack orientation on all walls
Mitered and installed gold metal trim profile at enclosure perimeter
Set speckled mosaic on bench top and grouted all surfaces with dark-tinted grout
