Marble Rain Shower Build in Kyle

Walk-in shower with white marble porcelain tiles, black rain showerhead, and mosaic floor in a Kyle home

About This Project

This walk-in shower in a Kyle home in the 6 Creeks subdivision was built from scratch as part of a primary bathroom remodel. The walls are tiled floor-to-ceiling in large-format white marble-look porcelain with gray veining. A recessed niche was framed between studs and tiled to match the surrounding walls. The floor uses a small-format marble mosaic that provides the texture needed for slip resistance in a wet shower floor, while continuing the marble aesthetic from the walls.

The black matte rain showerhead and hand shower were installed by the homeowner's plumber before we arrived. We tiled around the existing valve trim and arm locations, which requires careful measurement and clean core drill cuts through the porcelain. The shower was waterproofed with a sheet membrane system that was adhered to the cement board backer before any tile was set, with the membrane lapping up the wall at least 6 inches above the shower floor on all sides.

What We Did

1

Applied sheet waterproofing membrane to all shower surfaces with fabric-reinforced corners

2

Framed, waterproofed, and tiled recessed niche to match surrounding wall tile

3

Set large-format wall tile with core drill cuts around existing valve and arm locations

4

Set mosaic floor tile on pre-sloped shower pan, grouted all surfaces with unsanded white grout
