Calacatta Marble Shower with Niche in New Braunfels
About This Project
This primary bathroom shower in a New Braunfels home in the Veramendi development features Calacatta marble-look porcelain tile on all walls, with a built-in niche shelf and a hexagon mosaic floor. The homeowners wanted a shower that read as a coherent marble space from floor to ceiling, so we selected a large-format tile with a consistent veining direction and arranged the pieces so the pattern flows across the wall joints rather than stopping at each tile edge.
The niche was framed between studs at a height that keeps the bottom shelf at a comfortable reach from standing. We waterproofed the niche interior separately before tiling it, with the membrane lapping out onto the surrounding wall surface and under the first row of wall tile. The hexagon mosaic floor is set on a pre-sloped pan, and the hexagon format provides the texture and grout coverage needed for slip resistance without requiring a separate anti-slip treatment. Grout throughout is a warm gray unsanded product that complements the Calacatta veining without competing with it.

Framed, waterproofed, and tiled built-in niche with membrane lapping onto surrounding wall
