Large-Format Cream Porcelain Floor in New Braunfels
About This Project
This home office and adjacent corridor in a New Braunfels custom home in the Veramendi development received a full floor-to-ceiling tile package using a cream polished marble-look porcelain in a large-format slab size. The homeowner wanted a seamless, high-end look that would read as natural stone without the maintenance requirements of actual marble. The tile we used is a rectified porcelain with a polished surface and subtle cream and gold veining.
Rectified tile has mechanically cut edges that allow for very tight grout joints, typically 1/16 inch, which is what creates the near-seamless appearance in large-format installations. To achieve this, the substrate has to be exceptionally flat. We checked the slab with a 10-foot straightedge and used a self-leveling compound to address two areas that exceeded tolerance before tile went down. The wall tile was set with a leveling clip system to keep the face of each tile perfectly plumb and flush with its neighbors.
What We Did
Checked slab flatness and applied self-leveling compound to two out-of-tolerance areas
Planned layout from the room center with 1/16-inch joint spacing throughout
Set rectified porcelain with full back-butter coverage and tile leveling clips
Grouted with unsanded cream-tinted grout and polished tile faces after cure
