Marble Master Bathroom in San Marcos
About This Project
This master bathroom in a San Marcos home near the Blanco Vista neighborhood received a full tile renovation. The walls behind the floating vanity and inside the glass-enclosed shower were tiled floor-to-ceiling in large-format white marble-look porcelain with subtle gray veining. The round mirror wall was treated as a focal point, with the tile running continuously behind it rather than stopping at a wainscot line.
Before any tile went up, we applied a liquid-applied waterproofing membrane to all shower walls and the shower floor, with reinforcing fabric tape embedded at every corner and change in plane. The thinset used was a white polymer-modified mortar, chosen specifically to prevent any gray bleed-through behind the light-colored tile. Grout joints were kept to 1/16 inch to minimize visible seams and enhance the marble-like continuity of the surface.
What We Did
Waterproofed all shower surfaces with liquid membrane and fabric-reinforced corners
Planned layout from the focal mirror wall outward to ensure balanced cuts at all edges
Set large-format porcelain with white thinset and back-buttered each piece for full coverage
Grouted with unsanded white grout and caulked all corners and the shower base transition
